Film & TV language: poster analysis
Blade Runner:
1) On the run, facing oppression - due to the weapon.
2) Action/Sci-fi (hybridity) - bold bright colours such as yellow which symbolise danger and black connoting mystery. Also the weapon. Reinforces gender stereotypes in terms of genre.
3) Aimed at young adults and above (15+)
Scary Movie 2:
1) Made from a range of old horror movies (intertextuality)
2) Comedy/Horror (hybridity) due to the title "scary movie 2", the facial expressions on the actors faces and tagline "absolutely hilarious"
3) Aimed at older teenagers and adults (16+)
Uzak:
1) Murder mystery or a war/crime drama due to the isolated setting and the main protagonist looking into the distance (Barthes enigma code - what is he looking at?)
2) Crime/thriller/mystery.
3) Aimed at an older audience (20+)
I am not scared:
1) The story seems like it revolves around 1 main character due to having a powerful central image and having the personal pronoun "I'm".
2) Could be a coming of age film due to having a boy as the main/lead character. Might be code a horror film due to the use of the word "scared" and having the boy looking down a mysterious hole. (Barthes enigma code - what is in the hole)
3) Aimed at a audience from 13+ so they can relate to the character (Blumler + Katz users and gratifications theory: personal identity)
Sin city:
1) Looks like a action due to the weapons being held, the seriousness on the characters faces and the way they are positioned. The characters seem like they of some high importance due to having a high angle shot making them seem superior.
2) Action/crime drama/violence - due to the weapons and the colours used - red and black connoting meanings danger or enigma.
3) Aimed at an audience at 15+ due to the action and violence.
Pirates of the Caribbean - Dead mans chest:
1) A pirate movie (due to the title and the images of a ship at sea), might be about a quest/mission because of the word "chest" showing they are going to find treasure.
2) An action movie because of the weapon being held, and the images of an octopus attacking one of the ships at a rough sea. Might be elements of horror due to the skeleton face on the title. (hybrid)
3) Aimed at a young audience (13+), due to all of the action.
Bride & prejudice:
1) Looks like a love movie but with outside views such as culture and family due to the representation of BAME people and the Taj Mahal in the background of the film poster impacting the couple causing them issues.
2) A modern age romcom (hybrid) due to the tagline "...ROMANTIC,FUNNY...".
3) Aimed at a young audience (14+).
Million dollar baby:
1) Woman protagonist, perhaps on a quest to find something or achieve something. Mystery, suspense and drama. (Barthes enigma code)
2)Thriller/action movie to the sharp black and red colours connoting danger or mystery and the serious faces of the actors on the film poster.
3) Aimed at a much older audience possibly 16+.
