Sound: parallel and contrapuntal learner response
1) Type up your feedback from your teacher.
- Superb - you can tell from the audience reaction just how effective it is. Excellent choice of images. Music is perfect for the brief, and it is genuinely funny.
- Several bits of opening section edited in time with music - very effective technically.
- Very much feels like a production for the Tik Tok generation!
2) Type up your feedback from fellow students - you can summarise key points if several students give you similar feedback.
WWW - Amazing timing, editing, music choice.
EBI - Make the clip size bigger.
3) Now reflect on your work and write your own evaluation of your video. Write a 'What went well' (WWW) paragraph and a paragraph for 'Even Better If' (EBI) underneath the rest of your feedback.
WWW - I followed the brief. The change in contrast from parallel to contrapuntal was clear.
EBI - I could've made the size of the clips larger and the first clip was a bit too long, so I could've made it a bit quicker.
4) Learner response: compare your own video against your evaluation of the top three videos in the class. Whose did you think was best and why? How could you have improved your own video?
Arkin, Lara and Laith had good videos. The transition from parallel to contrapuntal was explicit.
Arkin's choice of clips for his parallel part was really good, and the change to the contrapuntal certainly gave an unsettling feeling of laughter. The way he edited his clips were perfectly done.
I could've edited the sounds of music to the movements to the clips.
5) Finally, what have you learned about the importance of sound to film and TV through this week's work?
The manipulation of sound can change the atmosphere and the feeling directed towards an audience and can change the whole meaning of a scene.
