Cinematography video feedback/learner response

1) Type up your feedback/comments from your teacher.

  • Good range of shots and generally correct labelling (tricky to say what a medium shot is with a small bird!)
  • In terms of theme/content I would probably have stuck with either animals or a person than both
  • Where was the close-up of a cow!?!
  • Some cameras movement or focus a little off in terms of technical skills for the future.

2) Type up your feedback from fellow students.

Wide shot and slow pan were perfect

The focus and the end were a bit out of focus and too rushed.

3) Now reflect on your work and write your own summary of the comments and feedback you have received. Write three WWWs and three EBIs.

WWW:

  • Well labelled shots
  • Good camera shots/angle/movements
  • Good attempt at tracking shot
EBI:

  • Over the shoulder shot need to be focused on the setting, not the shoulder
  • I don think my tracking shot was a tracking shot as you can see the car, so looks like a POV from the car. Next time I do it, I need to make sure I don't include the car
  • Camera steadiness was a bit shaky

4) Learner response: think about what you learned about cinematography making the video and also watching others. What will you do differently when you start the coursework in the summer? What tips or tricks have you learned from others that you can use next time? Are there any specific aspects of camerawork that you need to revise or practice?

Cinematography can be hard to perfect with all the focus and steadiness from the camera. For coursework I need to make sure that my focus on shots like the over the shoulder shot is focusing in the right area and when looking at a subject, that it can be clearly seen. I need to learn about the potential meanings created with the different types of camera shots used.
