1) Why does the article suggest that ‘on the face of it, BBC Radio is in rude health’?

They don't reach the
audience which they wish to target, "It has half the national market" where other radio station have up to 34 million weekly listeners. 

2) According to the article, what percentage of under-35s used the BBC iPlayer catch-up radio app?

Purnell says just 3% of under 35's use the iPlayer catch-up radio app.

3) What is BBC Sounds?

An app and website which will have radio livestreams, catchup services, music mixes and podcasts.

4) How do audiences listen to radio content in the digital age?

People nowadays use apps such as
Spotify or apple music to stream music and podcasts on apple podcasts. They also use voice assistants such as Alexa to listen to the radio.

5) What does Jason Phipps suggest is important for radio and podcast content aimed at younger audiences?

Phipps suggest to aim to an audience under 35 that
"It has to be a warmer, more story-led journey. You need to report the very personal experience of it." He also suggest that we need more podcasts aimed to the topics of relationships, sex and intimacy.

6) Why does the BBC need to stay relevant?

As the BBC has
"changed exponentially over nearly a century and particularly in the last decade," It is also added that "And the BBC is really important and valued by licence fee [payers] it's got to continue to be relevant."

10) Two new podcasts were launched alongside the BBC Sounds app. What are they and why might they appeal to younger audiences?

  • End of Days - Talks to the friends and families of Wao cult victims recruited from the Seventh-Day Adventist church. 
  • Beyond Today - Mimics the New York Time's successful The Daily Programme. Covers hard news, 2 of the shows including if the UK has enough money and another about an Iraqi Instagram star who was killed for being too provocative.
These would appeal to younger audience as these covers a range of topics relevant to todays society especially topics to do with social media as younger audiences heavily use this.
